This seems to be the typical response to the new Mustang. It's too much like a European sports car. This is interesting to me, because I cannot imagine any other scenario in which looking like an Aston Martin could possibly be a negative thing to say.
"Dude, I love your new Fusion."
"Yeah, it's okay, I guess, but it looks too much like an Aston. All the Aston guys are calling me a poser."
Anyway, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on the 2015.

You know what I think it looks like?
A nice new Mustang.

All this BS about the Fusion and now the Mustang looking like an Aston. I see no resemblance what so ever. The grilles are not even close to an Aston. Put them side by side and no one will be confused as to which is which.

Nice write-up!
My personal take on it is that its a nice sports car but not a muscle car. It doesn't have the aggressive eat your face off look and goes more with the blow your doors off styling. At first I was "meh" to it but the more I see it the more I do actually like it. Personally I don't thing it should be labeled a mustang but I know the EU guys have always wanted to get their hands on one. Here in the USA it seems everyone already has one which turns them into generic cars that you see everyday and non "head turners" (unless its an SVT/Roush/Boss/etc). From a business side I believe its a very smart move for Ford - the EU get the "Mustang" name they have dreamt about and the options to compete with their market - the US get another variation of the mustang with a huge selection of engine options and a new style option to choose from the long list of past mustangs.
"Looks like an Aston" is what I refer to as a compliment.

What happened to the retro styling? Everyone like it. Why go and run a good thing?

They haven't announced pricing for Europe yet, but most outlets are speculating that it'll cost around £30,000/€35000. Taking a quick look on the UK's always accommodating used car market... http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/ca…
I know which I'd buy. And I quite like the Mustang.

Because not everyone is 70. Don't get me wrong. I loved the retro-styling, too. But all things grow.

It's not that hard to see. They're both wide, flat and hexagonal. The kicker is the horizontal chrome bars.

Still think it's the wrong direction though. Seems like they took a bunch of modern design cues and threw them all together.
It's gonna turn off a huge group of buyer looking to re-live their youth by buying a classic looking sports car. The Mustang is as much a mid-life crisis car as the Corvette.
I see the car and see a Mustang rip off. Like something made to copy a Mustang without getting sued.

Because not everyone grew up in the 60s and 70s and we want something more modern.
Retro can only go so far. Were they supposed to keep evolving a design that's based on a 67 Mustang? What is the next step, a retro 71-73 or Mustang II?

That'd be sweet.
I still think they tried too hard to make it modern.
I posted a reply to another post.

Pretty sure it's a Lambo, dude.

And then you look at everything else... which doesn't look the same. There are design similarities in terms of some of the details, but they are by no means identical.

Yurp never had an old mustang. this is the first mustang the rest of the world gets. it needed to be modern to appeal to the huge market they're opening it up to

I see lots of Aston in the design (not a bad thing)
but I don't see much Fusion aside from a bit in the front, but that's more of Ford's new corporate face than anything.
I think the new Mustang looks spectacular.

That'd be sweet to baby boomers maybe, but I don't want to relive an era I wasn't alive for and if I did I could find a classic Mustang. For those of us that grew up with Fox Mustangs and SN-95s, we don't necessarily want a retro Mustang. I like the S197 alot, don't get me wrong, but I want a Mustang that is looking to the future rather than the past. My Dart Turbo will end up being traded on an Ecoboost Mustang.

I can see your point it's just I feel the lost something that made the Mustang a Mustang. I can't explain it though.
It's a good looking car but not a good looking Mustang.
I love the modern drivetrain though. I'm a turbo 4 guy too.

I would disagree. The Fox was unquestionably European looking when it first debuted and it's among the most iconic Mustangs. The car has always been a car for the times and the retro ones went against that IMO. It still looks like a Mustang to me.
I'm honestly surprised at how many people feel the S197 is the pinnacle of modern Mustang design.

While I love the new Mustang, all future owners will have to do is pull up next to an Aston to realize how very different their car is from an Aston.
